Understanding Identity: My Journey Through Self-Discovery with Romi Imbelli

Episode Summary:

In this special episode of MetaBusiness Millennial, I was joined by Romi Imbelli, a former reality TV star from The Real L Word and now a life coach and podcast host. Romi shares her powerful story of evolution—from her public life on reality TV to her personal journey of self-healing and discovery.

The conversation dives deep into Romi’s experiences, including her struggles with identity, love, and worthiness, as well as her challenging yet transformative relationships. Romi opens up about her upbringing, her journey through bisexuality, and her evolving views on relationships, shedding light on the importance of healing childhood traumas. We also reflect on our meeting at a historic event at the White House, where we connected over spirituality, tattoos, and our shared commitment to growth.

Key Discussion Points:

  • Romi’s journey from The Real L Word to becoming an identity coach.
  • How her childhood experiences, family dynamics, and societal expectations shaped her identity and love life.
  • The challenges of navigating public life, including criticism of her bisexuality and relationships.
  • The importance of healing childhood trauma and finding self-worth through therapy, EMDR, and sobriety.
  • The intersection of personal identity and professional success, particularly for women and mothers.
  • Reflections on celebrity culture and the pressures of living up to public expectations.

About Romi Imbelli:

Paired with an unmatched self-love, she wears every identity like a badge of honor: bisexual, Christian, entrepreneur, divorcee, mother.

After spending time as a 3-season cast member of Showtime’s reality TV series The Real L Word in her 20s, Romi became a public figure overnight. Taken aback by the response, she began seeing her life’s purpose and has since dedicated herself to creating safe spaces for those to discover their inner and outer beauty.

As a keynote speaker and identity coach, Romi cultivates these safe spaces. She works with LGBTQIA+ individuals who are struggling with their identities, families of the LGBTQIA+ community, and those who are still navigating their own journeys.

As part of her continued personal mission to be a voice and advocate for women, she began co- hosting The EFF IT Madres podcast with her best friend and fellow life coach, Carla Zuniga.

The utmost important lesson she wants her daughter to know: your story doesn’t own you and only you have the real power to let it.
