The idea for #MetaBusiness came to me in 2019 as I was nearing the end of my own metaphysical psychology studies and healing from severe burnout after shuttering operations of my first start up, DaO Detroit.  

The idea very simply was to bring my metaphysical and spiritual practices to business boardrooms, classrooms and trading floors and especially to the millions of people around the world dedicating their lives to organizations that too often ignore their contributions.

For a vast majority of my business career, I was quick to point the finger at big greedy corporations and the “white guys” as the evil culprits who kept the status quo business operations in effect. They were the ones that didn’t care about diversity and inclusion, didn’t care about treating employees well, or didn’t care about paying fair, equitable salaries. I mean, there was always something to blame them for.

Then, in 2017, I categorically made the decision that it was my time to run my own business so that I can do it the “right” way.

Yet, ironically, my feelings didn’t change.

I struggled to get along with my business partners. I struggled to keep a consistent team together. And I struggled to be happy doing what I quit the corporate game to do – build a harmonious and sustainable company.

This is when I began to innerstand that the zero-point for all that I was experiencing started with me and NOT the “white guys”.

And so began the Metaphysical Business journey. 

Metaphysics invites us to go beyond our here and now three-dimensional reality and tap into our true self – also known as our soul, higher self, inner being. Each and every one of us has this “invisible self” that dwells within us and we all can connect to this aspect of ourselves at any time. And it is through this connection that we see ourselves, the world and the people around us as Source sees us – pure perfection.

I know it may sound a bit ridiculous, but it is the truth. The more we attempt to tap in to Source and our higher selves, the more peace we have; the more creativity we have; the more energy we have; and the more we actually start to enjoy the things we do everyday instead of doing them out of obligation, which is what most folks do who get up and go to work everyday.

I know it sounds too good to be true, but hear me out. . .

Universal law states that in every moment of every day, we are actively creating our reality. With every thought, either consciously or subconsciously, we are creating our future. And when you know how to harness the power of this undeniable universal law in your life, you can direct your thoughts and actions in a way that allows you to effortlessly attract what you want. 

So, when we trust this law to be true, then we can rest easily in the knowing that everything always works out for us as long as we are aligned in what we truly desire for our selves.

We must be aware of how we think. We must be aware of how we speak. We must be aware of how we act. And we must be aware of how we feel. 

Without this awareness, we remain stuck in the victim cycle and will likely end up blaming the “white guys,” again.

Feeling stuck and blaming others for my failures is no place I’ll ever be again. And it’s certainly no place you should occupy either, which is why I developed #MetaBusiness to help leaders heal from organizational dis-ease and thrive in the face of the inevitable challenges that arise in day-to-day work-life existence.

#MetaBusiness is designed to lift human consciousness in organizations across the world which would allow for corporate cultures to embody more of the joy, innovation and authentic community feel that people are craving now more than ever.

What is Metaphysical Business?

Whether we care to admit it or not, we spend the majority of our time engaged in work activities or thinking about what we need to do for work. Our commitment to our employers or even our own businesses are not to be taken lightly. Some of us believe that our work fundamentally represents who we are. While others may not identify as closely, they still find value in something their job has to offer. 

This is hugely important to business leaders who are seeking to achieve what every organization sets out to do – earn greater returns for its shareholders – because leaders can’t get there without highly effective teams. 

In recent years, we have experienced a great shift not only in work styles and requirements largely due to global pandemic demands, but also we’re witnessing a shift in how employees see themselves and their relationships with the organizations they serve. 

As Baby Boomers and Gen X’ers start to transition into retirement or less demanding roles, we observe that Millennials and Gen Z’ers are more interested in pursuing their passions and deriving purpose from the work that they do.

In order to do this, employees need high wellbeing for high performance.

Wellbeing in organizations extends farther than just offering full insurance coverage and sick/personal days off. Wellbeing goes beyond the physical aspects of work. Wellbeing includes the wholeness of who we are as human beings. Wellbeing is the physical and the metaphysical.

Let’s be clear. We are part body, part mind and part soul. 

To fully ignore 66.6% of who we are as human beings, does us a significant disservice in creating the most value for ourselves and our companies. Right?!

If it is proven that self-awareness enables employees to see them

selves more clearly, then why wouldn’t we want to invest in resources that created more intentional opportunities for employees to be more confident, creative, and collaborative? As we know, operating from higher levels of awareness leads to sounder and more enlightened decisions.

It goes without saying, that wellbeing directly affects your business outcomes.

When you have highly-effective, self-aware leaders in your organization, then you have more empowered, satisfied employees who then co-create a more profitable bottom line.

Why is Metaphysical Business important?

In light of the many challenges that have shifted the ways in which organizations conduct business across the globe, we need to seriously prioritize time for deep reflection, adaptation and most importantly HEALING. 

It goes without saying that we have all suffered ill-effects from the global pandemic and to be completely honest, many of us were suffering well before the lockdown. It’s just that we chose to suppress or ignore those emotions and do what we learned how to do best – power through!

Those days are long gone and the desire to push through anything whether at work or at home is non-existent. Yet, our behaviors don’t shift that easily despite if we have the desire or not.

With that being said, leaders can be trapped by deeply rooted unproductive habits that develop into what I call organizational dis-ease.

Organizational dis-ease is a disorder of the structure or function in an organization, especially one that adversely affects its culture, productivity, or the overall bottom line.

There are many types of dis-eases that plague organizations today including:

Burn Out - a state of physical or emotional exhaustion that also involves a sense of reduced accomplishment and loss of personal identity

No Magic Pill - Diversity within organizations make it clear that everyone’s needs and desires are different and no one solution can fix everything

Boundaries are Broken - Work-from-home arrangements have created unforeseen pressures on families as the blending of work and home has no clear end-point

Loss of Control or Autonomy - We crave the ability to control the world around us and the reduced feeling of having a say in our life outcome further triggers us 

Uncertainty - Our lives are built on patterns we can count on. The absence of reliable patterns means it literally hurts when we’re not able to plan ahead.

Need for Connection to Others - Comforting hugs or the warmth of a friend’s touch are few and far between and the pain of isolation has been shown to be more debilitating to our health than smoking.

As we observe in the medical field, when we are confronted with the symptoms of organizational dis-ease, we then seek solutions to co-create organizational healing.

Organizational healing is fundamentally the basis for Metaphysical Business. As we start to uncover the roots and causes of the dis-ease, we are doing the real work of identifying the emotional and spiritual roots of conflict to find balance.

Our work is not easy and more importantly, it is intensely personal, yet healing at the individual and organizational levels is built on interpersonal and emotional growth. Only by means of co-creation do we find our flow, our purpose, and a leveling-up of consciousness that would otherwise be unattainable.
